Preventative Dentistry

Our Burnaby Dental Centre’s dentists and team of professionals are strong advocates when it comes to educating our patients, as we believe that a better understanding of your personalized treatment plan will help you appreciate our role in your health care as well as help you identify areas of improvement.

Preventative dentistry involves proper oral care education and the practice of caring for your teeth to keep them healthy. The goal of preventative dentistry is to avoid tooth decay, sensitivity, enamel wear, and many other common issues.

Scheduling a teeth cleaning also gives us an opportunity to screen for oral cancer, cavities, gum disease and bone disease. Therefore preventative oral hygiene, through education and promoting good oral health habits, is the heart of our practice.

What Can I Expect at My First Visit?.

At your appointment, our dentist will sit down with you to discuss your concerns or questions, and then review some important information that will help you better understand your oral health. Our dentist will show you area of interest concerns using our advanced intra-oral cameras or digital x-rays. We will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that is specific to your unique dental needs.

You may feel that you are doing a great job at home brushing your teeth and flossing but we recommend seeing your dentist at least every six months. Cleaning by a dental professional will help your teeth stay free of tartar and plaque buildup and the dentist can address any problems before they become more severe, expensive and time-consuming to treat.
